"My favorite lyricist, Johnny Mercer, often wrote with Mr. Harold Arlen ("with whom he wrote a very unsuccessful show"). "Out of this World" was one of the first of their many collaborations. Arlen is probably most well known for "The Wizard of Oz." The movie that this soundtrack accompanies tells the story of how Arlen and E.Y. "Yip" Harburg wanted to give Dorothy a song of her own, and one that would describe the only color she'd ever seen. "Over the Rainbow" was born...and almost cut from the final version of the movie. Good thing it stuck around-It won Best Song at the 1939 Oscars. This is just one story surrounding the beautiful music of Harold Arlen."
