CD Reviews

Ken Ishii Spinning Mayhem
NICHOLAS A FITZ-HERBERT | Auckland New Zealand | 08/07/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD is a live recording of Ken Ishii spinning at the Liquidroom. If you don't know his work he is on the forefront of the Japanese Techno production scene. This CD shows why he is also at the forefront of the DJ scene.Comprising of 20 tracks (not 19 as listed above, track number 19 being the Tunnel (the Vectif Remix) then track 20 being dragon), Ken builds up a set from his amazing own Iceblink to harder and harder rhythms. They do not however become just hardcore rhythm tracks, but instead retain an excellent level of funk. This is in maintaining his intention of keeping a "friendly and open vibe" at the party (the theme of the Reel Up).It is amazing to hear the crowd screaming in the background which in no way deteriorates the sound quality. If you enjoy techno mix albums, and want to hear a live party, or if you have never had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Ishii spin, I can't recommend this enough."
