Born in Georgia and raised in Belfast and Surrey, Katie studied at the Brit School in south London before signing to the British independent record label Dramatico. The first single 'I Will Be There' is a beautiful tribute to a protective matriarchal figure, the song was written by Katie's longtime collaborator Mike Batt. "Mike had been commissioned to write a song for me to sing at the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of The Queen's Coronation.
