"I was contacted by Joshua Breakstone..who in a humble way asked if I was interested to get a copy of his CD"Remembering Grant Green" from 1993. As a huge GG fan I could only say YES PLEASE!
Breakstone is a world class player unfortunately only known by a far too small group of "jazzfanatics"
Breakstone says that Green is the jazzguitarplayer that he listened to the most...it is of course so that it is not possible to imitate Greens "soulful struttin"but Breakstone plays with passion and plays clearly in the Green tradition
both "languagewise" and "tonewise"
McDuff on B3 and Al Harewood are right there with
Breakstone..like they were 32 years earlier on the orignal
recordings of "Grantstand" and "Greens Greenery".
Breakstome makes one very interesting remarks about Greens
technique in the liner notes ref to that Green at times were
critisized for not having the best of techniques..saying " A
player only needs the technique to say what he needs to say"
My personal favourites here is Granstand and Moon River beautifully played by the three gentlemen ..Breakstone/McDuff/Harewood."
