CD ReviewsProfound Sounds... good! Jukey | Orlando, FL | 05/09/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "First off would like to say that Josh Wink is pound for pound, beat for beat the best US DJ right now! If you missed him at ULTRA FEST 8 in Miami - along side Carl Cox, Darren Emerson and others you missed the best part of the festival... I can go on but, back to the review> You can only expect the best mixing and programming in a profound sound compilation which is techinally on another plane compared to other mix cds out... Wink has turned mixing into an artform in of itself... PS3 is technically (meaning the mixing, segue ways, and fx) superior to PS2. Both discs stand out as amazing dj works, and as a dj who does mixes myself, i was satisfied in listening to aspects of the compilation much like another painter would look at art. As far as programming goes, don't expect to see any hit tracks or overused material... haven't heard of any of them, but somehow wink put them together so cohesively. Another mistake a listener might make is to presume this is a representation of a live set... which i'm sad to say is not.. Regardless of what was said in the promo, this is not wink at his best or live.. it is simply an absurdly good comp. Wink's live set's are much more directed at the dancefloor and at building peaks till people go nuts... I think had JOSH WINK DONE A TRUE REPRESENTATION of his LIVE SETS it would have sounded way different from both mix comps. I think that's where the sacrafice was, to pull of a great mix cd while staying true to your live set is hard to do... simply because a live set is less cohesive and more improvosational... there needn't be 15 min segue ways in a live set, you just drop it in when it feels right or switch up fast. Either way, like i said PS3 is certainly not live Wink at least stylistically... but it still will deliver the goods and give you good music both for your head and your feet. Go wink!!"
