CD Reviews

Simply awesome, a new trombone master
D. Berg | Rockville Centre, NY USA | 04/29/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I am a aspiring jazz/funk trombone player, and I must say that listening to Josh Roseman's album is an experience that no one should miss out on. This CD is an eclectic variety ranging from reggae-type sounds to Led Zeppelin and Nirvana covers, all drenched in funk, soul, and jazz. I absolutely love the way Roseman attacks his trombone, he has the ability to play fast bop style trombone, but usually he opts to play dirty, raunchy backsliding trombone with a growl. It's awesome. I had the opportunity to see him live on tour with Soulive, and his solos blew my mind. This guy can play the same note 50 times in a row and still make it sound interesting. He's got the funk. After the show, my friend and I mistakenly thought there'd be an encore so we were standing around when the roadies came out and started taking the stuff down. Roseman came out to collect his mutes, and I ended up talking to him for about 10 minutes. He's an extraordinarily nice guy, to go with his ridiculous talent. Buy this album."
Too Much Fun - Sun Ra Would Be Proud!

"Thank goodness for NPR, or I would never have found half of the truly original CDs I own. This CD, despite being made of more cover tunes than original Roseman pieces, is all original in its arrangement and production, and the simple joy that can be heard in each piece make it a true gem. It is rare to hear albums by people who are both masters of their instrument(s) and are able to have fun while performing or recording. Thank you, Josh and your Unit! :)"
