"Jose Luis Perales' greatest hits CD is a masterpiece. It includes 17 classic tracks from the Spanish songwriter's album of the 70s and 80s. Each song tells a story about love, family, relationships, both lost and found, and matters of the heart, which makes Perales's songwriting ability impecable. I grew up in a Hispanic family in New York City, and I have always admired his music and lyrics since I was a kid. They are so carefully and thoguhtfully written, and just plain fun to listen to. Whether it is a mid-tempo ballad, a country style song or faster-paced, synth-oriented pop, Perales's voice and music is perfect, and what's best is that it doesn't get tired and boring. The arrrangements of the songs gives Perales style and class, and he still maintains his compsure as a serious, story-telling songwriter. The one drawback to this CD is that some of the songs are not the full-length versions, and that serves as a great disadvantage to the fans who are familiar with the original, complete songs. Why EMI/Capitol Records did that, I don't know. Otherwise, the "James Taylor" of Spain is a very appropriate for this Spanish songwriter. His music continues to enjoy the attention of fans in the 90s, and his marvelous ability at telling a story in every song with style and substance tells me that his work shows little sign of diminishing."

"These songs are timeless. I recommend this cd to anyone who's looking to broaden their latin music collection. but watch out or it'll reach right in and play some of your heartstrings, it's very nostalgic. I love it."
