Synopsis

Album Description
"Listening to this recording is a ritual unto itself." -- eMusic "Imagine Robert Gass & On Wings of Sound meet Gabrielle Roth & The Mirrors in a Himalayan Monastery." -- NEW AGE RETAILER "Wonderful benefits can be had by listening to the whole in one sitting or dancing. Highly recommended." -- COMMON GROUND "The musical offering on this CD is completely acoustic, using traditional ethnic instruments and chants. The overtone properties of these elements give the atmospheres overt space music appeal. The repetitious nature of the chants and harmonics give the CD minimalist qualities. The strong rhythms in the second composition create electro-tribal textures. Like all of Goldman's offerings, this CD works on many different levels." -- ALL MUSIC GUIDE Chant to Tara, Tibetan goddess of compassion and protection. These rhythmic chants, called kirtans, are very popular. Created by Jonathan Goldman, a world-renowned authority in the field of sound healing who presents lectures, workshops, weeklong intensive training sessions, and Tara Trance dances around the world. The exotic sounds of these chants are truly powerful to experience for movement, healing, meditation, or yoga.

My Favorite Jonathan Goldman CD

"This is my favorite Jonathan Goldman CD. I like that both songs are as long as they are, because I use this CD for meditating and relaxing. With shorter songs I tend to not be able to use the music as much to get into the feel of my meditations, because the songs change and unfortunately I notice it. But that's not the case with this CD.

The first song, "To Invoke the Goddess", starts with the drone of a sitar, and some other low background sounds. The vocals don't kick in until around 2-1/2 minutes into the song, and the drums don't kick in until about 4-1/2 minutes. But that's ok. Both the vocals and drums are very slowly introduced and gradually build as the song progresses. The vocal are chants that are lower in frequency, as opposed to the higher frequencies found in the Crown of Creation, for example. The chants are repetitive throughout the first track and the songs swings into full gear at about 5 minutes in. It's unfortunate that a 30 second preview doesn't let you hear the best parts (after 5 or so minutes).

At about 9-1/2 and again at 17 minutes in, there is a break in the chants but the rest of the song remains the same. The chants enter back into the track a few minutes later with more intense drumming.

Track two - "To Evoke the Goddess", starts much the same way as the first. The drone of a sitar for the first 4 minutes, and then a beat kicks in. This track is different from the first in that there are no chants at all on the whole track. It's only gradually building percussion (along with the background sitar sound). The drums on the second track are slightly more involved than the first, but both tracks are very similar, percussion wise.

When I listen to this CD, I find the music helps me very much focus on whatever it is I need to focus on. There is just something about the sounds and beat of both tracks that have a calming, soothing effect on me, but still allowing me to be alert and focused.

"There is power on this CD.

There is something on this CD that really can put you in a trance, indeed there is power, could be the rhythmic chants, could be the hypnotic sitar, could be the infinite layers of background sounds, could be the drums, could be the implicit power of the Goddess, the great Green Tara, the Goddess of Compassion and Protection.

There are only 2 song on this CD, The first song, "To Invoke the Goddess" give us a sonic landscape of layers of sounds, drums, and the Mantra, the second song "To Evoke the Goddess" is a Mantra-less version, with more powerful and wonderful drumming.

Both song are great, and the 30 second preview doesn't let you appreciate the beautiful and the power of this Mantra.

Indeed there is a great power in this CD.
