Synopsis

Album Description
In 1999, Johnny returned to the scene of his former triumph, the Whisky A Go-Go and we think it's fair to say after listening to this CD that he still had the magic! His original keyboardist, Larry Knechtel, is with him as well as such special guests as Waddy Wachtel and Benmont Tench, so the band is super tight and the set list is to die for: `Maybelline'; `Baby, Can I Change My Mind'; `China; Sea of Heartbreak'; `The Letter'; `Down at the House of Blues'; `Can't Find My Way Home'; `Just to Hold My Hand'; `He'll Have to Go'; `Memphis'; `Poor Side of Town'; `Baby, I Need Your Lovin'; `Secret Agent Man', and `Slow Dancin'. American rock 'n' roll at its purest!

CD Reviews

Johnny Rivers does it again!
Joel | New Jersey, United States | 12/16/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a really good cd. Recorded in 1999, it has Johnny Rivers returning to the scene of his initial triumphs and sounding great. He hits all the notes, has a very good back-up hand to help him out, and is obviously having a good time. If you like Johnny Rivers, this is one you should definitely add to your collection."

"Here is another cd that Johnny Rivers has done that deserves recognition. Live! Back at the Whisky has a great variety of music, and My very favorite songs are China, Down at The House of Blues, Poor Side of Town, Baby, I need your lovin, Slow Dancing and of course the ever popular Secret Agent Man. Very good songs."
Different and GOOD

"I was there all three nights at The whiskey when JR recorded this. It is a good CD with some great moments. "China" " He'll Have To Go" " sea Of Heartbreak " "the letter" somne of that Jihnny Rivers guitar playing that constantly surprises people to the point where they compare him with Eric Clapton. A good live CD commemorating 35 years of opening The Whiskey."
