CD Reviews

Johnny Hates Jazz...
D. S. HARDEN | L.A.,CA USA | 09/17/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I'll admit it, I chose this collection for the two versions of "Shattered Dreams." I was pleasantly suprised to find that the rest of the collection was easy on my ears, Particularly "I don't want to be a Hero" and "Turn the tide." This collection is also priced just right! Get yourself a copy, pop in the disc, relax and enjoy! They earned their 5 stars from me. A talented bunch from the 80's!"
Hardly worth the purchase...

(2 out of 5 stars)

"The only reason that I purchased this album was because I loved the songs "Shattered Dreams" and "Turn Back The Clock" which were both hits in the UK when I was growing up overseas. However, since I was unable to purchase either song as individual purchases ANYWHERE, I thought that I would bite the bullet and get this "best of" compilation.

Unfortunately--and this is true of many bands of the mid-80s--Johnny Hates Jazz obviously fell victim to a one-hit wonder status because the rest of the songs are either bland or downright obnoxious. They were also obviously an old-school product before the days of individual MP3 downloads where record execs would allow 1 or 2 good songs to carry an entire album of trash along.

Also, I was unaware that they also did a fair number of instrumentals; instrumentals that may have become good songs in their own right only to fall by the wayside of not having any inspiration to tag lyrics on to them.

As nostalgic as I was for the 2 songs, I seriously wish that I had not bothered with the purchase. Hopefully, these songs will eventually be available for purchase on a track-level to save everyone time and money."
