Considerably more popular in Europe than in their American homeland, Johnny & The Hurricanes were probably at the height of their popularity in 1962 when they toured West Germany with none other than The Beatles as their opening act! Their reputation had been made thanks to hits such as Red River Rock and Beatnik Fly, among others, hits that were effectively derived from older material. Red River Rock, for example, was effectively a re-write of Red River Valley , whilst their second UK hit, Reveille Rock was based on the bugle theme Reveille. Stormsville would become the group's first UK chart album, peaking at #18 in 1960.
