Synopsis

Product Description
Recipient of a GRAMMY nomination for 'Best Native American Music Album'!

John Two-Hawks, Lakota Native American flute virtuoso and pioneer delivers a masterpiece of all original Native American flute solos. These stunning 'first-take' improvisations not only showcase the effortless mastery Two-Hawks possesses with the Native flute, but the deeply sacred manner in which he calls these songs forth. From one of the most gifted and respected Native flute players of all time comes this remarkable musical offering that is sure to become a benchmark in the American Indian flute music genre. This is solo Native flute at its absolute best.

Two-Hawks says:
In bringing this music into existence, I called on nineteen different flutes. Great care was taken in the preparation for creating these songs. The smoke of prayers was offered, and as I entered into that sacred space with each flute, the flute and I became as one, and I could hear its song before it was breathed to life. Listen with your spirit to the voices of these ancient healing instruments. Be still, with your heart open, and all that is empty within your soul may be filled....

John Two-Hawks is a GRAMMY and Emmy nominated, Platinum Award winning musician whose music has been featured by Fox Searchlight, HBO, The History Channel, National Public Radio, NativeRadio.com, American Indian Radio on Satellite, Gathering of Nations Radio, and countless other worldwide media outlets. His numerous best-selling CDs, prestigious awards and ground-breaking achievements have earned him a distinguished reputation as one of the world's premier Native American musicians. Two-Hawks is a bona fide music visionary and pioneer who was among the first to introduce the Indigenous Flute to the world decades ago. From the beginning, he demanded the highest standards of excellence. As a result, John Two-Hawks has taken his signature brand of Native Flute music into places it has never been, brought it to millions who had never heard it before, and elevated it to a place of equal billing and respect in the world of music.

Two-Hawks is most known for his effortless virtuosity with the Native American Flute, and yet the Native Flute is only one among a myriad of musical instruments John Two-Hawks plays and includes in his signature brand of music. Some of the instruments JTH employs in his music are: beautiful vocals, guitars, keys-synth-pianos, percussion-drums-rattles, mandolins, dulcimers, and the Finnish kantele, just for starters! The tasteful musical mosaic of all these instruments masterfully weaved together in harmonious compositional arrangements is part of what has contributed to the worldwide popularity of Two-Hawks' music.

Even with the enormous amount of success he has experienced, John Two-Hawks remains true to his Lakota ethnic and cultural heritage, and has always continued to be fiercely committed to Indigenous human and civil rights and social justice. He is a kind, gentle and humble soul, as well as a brilliant musician, composer and performer, and this all comes through in his emotionally stirring and evocative, one-of-a-kind music.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I'm relatively new to Native American flute music and was pleased to discover this artist's work. I have several albums of his but especially enjoy the solo flute pieces in Wind Songs. My husband and I started out listening to R. Carlos Nakai, who is highly regarded in the field. We have since expanded to others including John Two-Hawks and another artist you should check out, Marina Raye. This would be a good addition to your Native American music collection."
