Synopsis

Product Description
John Németh has crafted another timeless slice of American music. Drawing on the classic blues, soul, and R&B influences that inform his stunning vocal style, John lays down a set of tunes that wouldn't sound a bit out of place in the golden years of Memphis or Muscle Shoals. His spine-tingling vocals, with echoes of the toughness of James Brown and the tenderness of Solomon Burke, infuse the album with a funky, soulful feeling.
And the hard-hitting, edgy R&B sound from his earlier award-winning releases is still there, but with an expanded tonal palate and a heightened craftsmanship. Tracks like the merciless "Breaking Free" and the punchy "Tuff Girl" showcase soul-revue arrangements replete with a full horn section, Hammond organ, and piano accompaniment. The loping, laid-back Southern-fried rhythm section sits in the pocket, the sinewy Cropper-esque guitars weave in and out, all supporting the tremulous, gospel-tinged tenor voice that has burned up stages across the land.
On Name The Day!, John continues to reinvigorate vintage American rhythm and blues with his uncanny ability to skillfully blend retro and modern blues and soul into compelling music that is simultaneously old and new.

John Németh - "Name the Day!" breaks the mold!

If it is true that white men can't jump, that stereotypical rule certainly does not apply to white men possessing large amounts of soul. John Németh on his latest, "Name the Day!" has recorded some of the best blues/R & B I have heard so far this year. He will definitely juke and jive his listeners, getting them up off their posteriors and onto the dance floor. I defy anyone to sit still while listening to this amazing record by John Németh!

Mr. Németh hails from what I would say to be an extremely unlikely place for a blues artist, especially of this caliber, Boise, Idaho. This isn't meant as a slant for this extremely talented artist, but he did sing in his Catholic church. This is not an environment usually known for its conduciveness to the creation of blues artists. As almost everyone should know, most blues artists are devoutly Baptist. I am just kidding. I simply wanted to take the stereotype to the next level.

However, Mr. Németh has defied the unwritten odds and, in this writer's opinion, will be, or already is, a force to be reckoned with in the world of the blues. His voice is, with out a doubt, incredible. Then he places the harmonica to his lips and more magic occurs. He sings with so much emotion that the listener will not be able to not think of legends such as James Brown, Percy Sledge, and B.B. King. You can certainly hear components of all three in Mr. Németh's music.

Mr. Németh has put together one of the best Memphis style blues bands I have heard in quite some time. He has recruited for this particular eleven track endeavor, Bobby Welsh on guitar and piano, Smokey Davis on fender bass, Nick Fishman on drums and percussion, Austin deLone on piano and organ, Jake Smolowe on organ, Jeff Teczon on tenor sax, Frank Bailey on trumpet, Mike Rinta on trombone (horn arrangements), and Steve Willis and Ed Earley on background vocals.

This record is not to be missed!

4 1/2 ***** THE DAY IS HERE!

(4 out of 5 stars)

"The day is indeed here. It's a day where John Nemeth's coronation as today's top contemporary blues performer is complete. Nemeth, has ALL the goods, and then some. You would think with his relentless touring schedule his studio work would suffer. "Name The Day" continues a torrid streak of excellent releases. This is modern blues at it's finest, blues and soul that gives a knowing nod to the past, while firmly rooted in the present. Nemeth's calling card may be his sensational voice, but his blistering harp work really shines on this disc. "Why Not Me" and I Said Too Much, with their gospel influences would make any past and present R&B and Soul great get up and take notice. The punchy title track would probably be a radio hit in another era. So why not 5 stars! Well, a track like "Heartbreak With A Hammer" is pretty cliched, but it's a small criticism. Nemeth's dynamic and versatile vocals elevate just about anything. It's one thing to have great pipes, but the ability to pull back is what has elevated him to the pantheon of modern Blues vocalists. Get on board with this guy, three outstanding discs in a row, and a magnificent live performer to boot. What more can you ask for?"
