CD Reviews

Ok, but not my cup of tea
Shanbritt | 11/16/2007
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I am what you might call a John McDermott groupie. I have several of his CD's, and the Irish Tenor CD's on which he performed. I have seen him in person (Fantastic), and even have a Celtic baseball cap signed by him, which I cherish.

So when I saw a new CD by John, I bought it immediately. The songs were lovely and some melancholic, and his voice is as good as ever, if not better. But the CD was just not my cup of tea. I love his Celtic music and the way he performs it. These songs are regular sort of "easy listening" tunes, which while beautiful, I just didn't love. It was my own fault for not knowing the songs of Ron Sexsmith, and just assuming I would like the CD, but I don't, and will probably not listen to it much if at all. It may be yard sale for good old John McDermott and Ron Sexsmith.

"
Rather hear the alphabet recited

"I adore John McDermott's voice and have seen him in concert several times. He is undoubtedly one of the best singers of Irish and Scottish folk music in existance. I own all of his albums and was so excited to see this new one on Amazon. But I could not have been more disappointed. John's voice is as wonderful as ever, but these songs are not what his fans might want to hear from him. I would rather have heard him recite the alphabet then listen to this music. I played it once and will probably never listen to it again. I hope in the future he returns to the music that brought him to international attention."
