Keeping that "California Sound" alive, and adding new and creative twists on covers as well as his own collection of originals is what makes John's music so refreshing! This is one you will definitely want to add to your collection!"

Beach Boy Wonder

"If you like the Beach Boys, you will love this CD. The harmonies are intriguing,the arrangements most pleasing,& John's voice is amazing in all parts. John's own songs added to the mix make for a must have. Would love to hear an "All John" CD down the pike. I'd buy it in a heartbeat!"

"In addition to being a talented musician in his own right, John Hunter Phillips is a lifelong student of the work of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys. On "It's About Time", the student demonstrates to the teachers that he's been paying attention. On this second Beach Boys related offering from Phillips, he covers a few of the Beach Boys' top 40 hits ("Darlin'", "Goin' On", and "Don't Worry Baby"), but focuses more on lesser known deep album cuts from both the band (e.g., "You Need a Mess of Help", "Only With You" and the title cut) and its individual members. JHP's renditions of Carl Wilson's "Heaven" and Brian's "Let It Shine", while reminiscent of the originals, put his own mark on the songs with incredible vocal arrangements and multi-part harmonies created and over-dubbed by Phillips himself. JHP also pays tribute to long-time Beach Boys band members Jeffrey Foskett and Billy Hinsche, delivering brilliant versons of Foskett's "Thru My Window" and Hinsche's "Under a Beach Boy Moon", (the disc features guest appearances by both Foskett and Hinsche). As good as the covers are, though, for me the highlights of this disc are the original songs penned by Phillips. My personal favorites are "You're Never Alone" and "Just Can't Wait for Summertime". On the latter, JHP, a native New Englander and somewhat reluctant South Carolina transplant, shows that he has also been paying attention to the music being played in his current surroundings. "Just Can't Wait" is a Carolina beach music hit waiting to be discovered and quite different from the Beach Boys' west coast material. Any fan of the music of Brian Wilson will love this cd. In the process of demonstrating what he's learned from the master, though, the student should be developing a pretty solid following of his own."

""It's About Time" has great harmonies, fun lyrics, dreamy ballads; it's all here...starting out catchy and poppin', taking you on a journey to aural paradise, ending in harmonic heaven with "The Laughter Of Your Voice"...you'll think you're on the beach; palm trees and all. All that's missing is the sand.

John Hunter Phillips: remember that name!!!"
