John Greaves, founder of the legendary British pop group Henry Cow (alongside Fred Frith and Robert Wyatt) has explored a variety of musical worlds through both collaborations and solo efforts. The singer and songwriter's most recent project has been setting texts by the poet Paul Verlaine. This release features a song cycle inspired by Les derniers jours de Paul Verlaine by Gustave Le Rouge with lyrics by Emmanuel Tungny. With disarming ease, Verlaine Gisant combines dazzling compositional virtuosity with improvisational finesse and outstanding performances.
