Nobody has yet mentioned that this Coltrane album is, well, a little bit depressing.

It starts out with Chim Chim Cheree, Coltrane's sorano waltz standard for 1964. Coltrane turns the Mary Poppins tune into a funereal dance, which is a downer. Why does the track fade out before the end?

In fact most of the tracks on this disc seem to fade out just before the end (at least, I hope it's near the end). Nature Boy is an interesting deconstruction of the original tune - and unlike Chim chim Cheree you get the feeling Coltrane actually respected the original tune here, there isn't the same contemptuous disregard for the atmosphere of the original.

Brazilia and Song of Praise are again rather sad works. At least they don';t cut off like Nature Boy.

"this is the kind of jazz that you will get lost in. the genius of Coltrane, Jones, Tyner, Workman, Garrison, (and Davis) shines through on every track. the confidence and power cannot be fully described here in words. just buy it and listen for yourself. a beautiful and wonderful recording full of surprises and delight."
A great discovery for fluffy.

"wow. look what i had somehow missed. i have been a coltrane fanatic for about 25 years, yet it was only a month ago that i latched onto this album. i knew it existed, i had just never gotten around to buying the thing. well, the error has been corrected, and with happy results. this is an outstanding coltrane release! i'm almost glad that i missed out on it for so long, because now i have a new masterpiece to enjoy. if you are a jazz fan, or a coltrane fan (and why wouldn't you be?), and have not yet heard this recording; procure a copy asap. do you hear me? asap!"
