"For those who are unaware of John Boy & Billy, I will attempt to explain. This CD celebrates the 20th anniversary of the radio pairing of Johnny "John Boy" Isley and Billy James. John Boy's pre-Big Show experience landed him at radio stations in Burlington, NC, Winston-Salem, NC, Knoxville, TN, and Charleston, WV. When John Boy arrived at WBCY-FM in Charlotte, NC, he was reunited with his old boss from Knoxville, Bob Kaghan. In 1980, John Boy met Billy, and in 1981, the John Boy & Billy "Big Show" was born. Since then, the guys have been yukking it up with tons of humorous skits, featuring characters like Mad Max (John Boy plays this character, a man who is mad at the world, especially PETA for telling him eating meat should be illegal, and Bill Clinton for his usual lying ways), Lipless (John Boy plays this ultra-funny character, a man who is named Lipless because his lips don't touch when he talks), Marvin Webster (Billy plays this character, a black man who makes fun of white people [BTW Billy is actually white]), Married Man (Billy plays this character, the quintisential henpecked husband), Rev. Billy Ray Collins (Billy plays this one, a carbon copy of a Southern Baptist minister), Hoyt (Billy plays this one, a stereotypical beer drinkin, deer huntin redneck), Murray (Billy plays this one, the guys' agent who always puts then down), and the always-funny Rev. Ernest Lee Sincere (aka Rev) and Goober (aka Goob) (Billy plays Rev, John Boy plays Goob). The other real cast members are also featured in skits. Executive producer Randy Brazell is the star of the Playhouse skit "Randy Goes Butch"/"The Butch Stops Here" (on disk 2), associate producer Jackie Curry-Lynch (sister of pro basketball star Dell Curry) has a starring role in the Playhouse skit "Dub The Genie", Robert D. Raiford is the star of "Raiford's Dong Story" (a double-entendre story...in this story, the "dong" is actually a Vietnamese coin...it really is...look it up) and the late Dub Starnes, who sadly passed away in early 1998, is the star of the playhouse skits "Dub The Genie" and "A Matter Of Life And Dub". Former cast member Mike Pruitt, who played Brady on the show, starred on the Playhouse skit "The Pirate Joke" with a real actor named Jeff Pillars. Also included with this release is liner notes with some pictures of the Big Show cast when they were younger. There are some embarrassing pics (especially Randy's, and Raiford has always looked like a curmudgeon [aka a grouch]]).Experience some of the funniest moments from the last 20 years of the Big Show! Hopefully they'll be around for at least another 20 years. And if ya see Goober later on, tell him I said "duh huh"! He'll know what you mean! And as retired police officer Donnie Pressley would say (listeners of the Big Show radio show will get this gag), in case of an emergency, you should dial 9111."
Redneck Humor at its Finest!

"The John Boy and Billy radio show was a fixture of my drive to work for several years until, to my dismay, the local station stopped carrying it. I have missed it sorely ever since. If you have a little bit of warped sense of humor (like me) and enjoy jokes, satire, and redneck humor, then this album is a MUST! It is just too funny! Imagine a half dozen good ole boys sitting around with a cube of beer, swapping stories, songs, etc. and that's what you have here. Don't expect more! And No Profanity - unheard of from comedians these days!I love this album and have shared the stories with several friends, who also laughed deeply. Well done, guys, and y'all come back to Dallas, hear?"
