John Barry is one of the best known composers of film music in the world, and has established a reputation that transcends the niche market of movie music. His scores for the James Bond movies established his credentials and he went on to score such notable soundtracks as Zulu, The Lion In Winter, Born Free, Out Of Africa and Dances With Wolves, receiving several Grammy
awards and Oscars for his work. His musical career though, had begun in earnest during the early years of British pop music.

After leaving EMI in 1962, he joined Ember Records where he produced and arranged music for many of the label's roster, including hits for Chad & Jeremy. Whilst with Ember, he scored the movies
Zulu, Four in the Morning and the TV special Elizabeth Taylor in London. Excerpts from all of which are featured on this CD.

After the success of Dr No, his first James Bond score, he scored all of the James Bond movies through to 1985's A View to a Kill and he was associated with the hit songs from several of the films including, Goldfinger and Thunderball. His second Bond theme, From Russia With Love is included on this album. Also included is the single Kinky, reputed to have been inspired by Kathy Gale, leather clad heroine of the then popular TV series, The Avengers.
