Music Composed and Conducted by John Barry. King Kong is one of Hollywood's most legendary creations, from the groundbreaking 1933 original to the highly anticipated Peter Jackson remake. In 1976 producer Dino De Laurentiis struck box-office gold with his own incarnation of the story, starring Jeff Bridges, Jessica Lange, and a colossal forty-foot model of Kong. The film was a massive production with ambitious special effects. Scoring the remake of one of the most famous films in Hollywood history was one of the few composers with the clout and talent to forge ahead with his own style: John Barry. The original's Max Steiner had practically invented the film score genre with the project, yet Barry was known for a completely different approach -- eschewing "Mickey Mousing" in favor of melody, mood and large-scale symphonic structures.

Of all the scores done by John Barry, this one ranks at the top #1, in my list of top 5 (other include: Dances with Wolves, Somewhere in Time, Out of Africa and Lion in Winter). Barry's haunting strings are like that of a lullaby for babies, to me. John Barry used so much of a romantic side, when creating the music for King Kong! His response of the gorgeous love theme that sparked the whole "beauty and the beast", makes the score what it is!
I am lucky enough to own this cd - bought for me as a 1st wedding anniversary, from my husband! If you can get your hands on this cd somewhere thru out the internet, don't think twice! This is a MUST for any John Barry movie-score fanatic (like me!). You won't regret it!

"I have been a Music Lover all my life and I owned this soundtrack on vinyl. I have been waiting years to hear it again, as I no longer have the album and once my CD arrived, it was truly a dream come true. The music is lovely and if you are a fan of movie soundtracks, this one is worthy of adding to your collection. It was worth the wait!"
One of the great film soundtracks

"The lush, sweeping soundtrack to King Kong from the legendary John Barry, has for many years been seemingly lost to the unforgiving critical eye of time...as many filmgoers have come to revile (unjustly) the campy 1976 take on the great movie beast.
The music is big, foreboding, and tender. There are 4 to 5 unforgettable themes here, and while its impossible to listen to the soundtrack without thinking of the scene it accompanies in the film, it affords a wonderful listening experience on its own. I choked up just listening to the closing theme!
Its a pity this, one of the truly great film scores, is seemingly out of print. If you can find it for a decent price from a re-seller, go for it. Sound quality is good, and there is a decent booklet with plenty of informative liner notes.
