CD Reviews

The best solo album by Turner
L. B. Ivarsson | Rock City | 11/10/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I think Joe Lynn Turner has a good voice and he did a great job with Rainbow (especially on "Difficult to cure"). His solo albums like "Nothing's changes" and "Hurry up and wait" have unfortunately not been that great, and the reason I think is that the material have been rather weak or of average standard with no particular stand-out songs. But with "Holy man", Turner have released his best solo effort ever. The songs on "Holy man" reminds a lot of the two Hughes Turner project albums ("I" & "II") and if you like those albums I can guarantee you'll find pleasure in this effort. It sure seems as Turner have put a lot energy into the song writing and even if it doesn't work all the way there's enough of great songs ("No salvation", "Holy man", "Anything", "Midnight in Tokyo", and "Too blue to sing the blues") to please any fan of either Deep Purple, Rainbow, Hughes Turner Project or Joe Lynn Turner's previous work. And by the way, don't forget to check out Joe Lynn Turner's "Under cover 1" & "Under cover 2" - two excellent cover albums!I'm usually a bit sceptic to buy albums on recommendations since the 5 stars are so frequently used, but I bought this one because of David Barrett's review. Thank you David!"
