CD Reviews

Watch Out For Joe
Devan Wade | Houston, TX | 11/27/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Every once in a while you find a diamond in the rough. If you get lucky, you get to discover an artist before the masses do. Joe Carmouche is a discovery. "A Touch Of Jazz" is a shining example of the direction jazz guitar is headed. A blend of unique arrangments of diverse classics and grooving original tunes. "Foreplay" is a melodic, captivating tune that pulls you in and keeps your attention...so much so, you'll look forward to track #8, which is a 8 minute live rendition that is clearly the highlight of the CD. Caribbean Nights is a personal favorite..it's smooth jazz with a touch of soul!Fly Like an Eagle and Betcha By Golly Wow are covers in only a loose sense of the word. Carmouche makes his own with is arrangement and interpretation.A Touch Of Jazz is Carmouche's second compilation, and last done in relative national obscurity. A star of the rise...a can't miss for fans of guitarist like Norman Brown and Brian Tarquin."
Outstanding!!!!

"Joe and his trio are phenominal!!! Brings me back to the old school of jazz guitar with early renditions similar to the style of George Benson, Stanley Jordan and the great Wes Montgomery!!!! I highly recommend seeing him if you're in Houston! If not, do the next best thing and buy a CD! Joe plays at Scott Gurtner's Sky Bar every Wednesday night with one of the most spectacular views of downtown. If you are a fan of great jazz, this is your chance to see "it" at it's finest and for free!!! 6-8 P.M. But don't wait too long, because with a talent like Joe's, it won't be free for very long! If I could, Joe & his trio would receive TEN STARS!"
