"I've listened to this CD 100's of times and never tired of Joan's fresh perspectives. The songs are as deep as you want them to be, as wounded as you need them to be, and as introspective and affirming as you allow. While ex-Mousketeers are getting breast augmentation and hogging the airwaves, and MTV turns into daycare with Anglo-Menudo wanabees and diamond-studded gangstas; one of the nation's great treasures remains an unsugared cult favorite. Join the order of open-ear listeners and discover Joan. An important talent, Joan occupies the vocal niche between Janis Joplin and Sheryl Crow, and is as complex a songwriter as This Mortal Coil and Stephin Merritt (Magnetic Fields). Listen to this music through headphones, the quality is amazing and the nuance of her voice is highlighted. I think of ex-lovers and ex-friends, as well as lovers and friends I've yet to meet. This is not good background music for work, its too captivating. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for melancholy babies (like me) who find enrichment by falling into ourselves on occasion."

"Joan gives us all an album here that is so unique in today's music scene. Yes, it sounds great upon first listening and it offers tunes to cruise in your car by; tunes to mourn by and tunes to party by. But what sets it apart is that over time the more you listen to it, the more it delivers and it keeps opening up. She's the real deal and not some pre-packaged fluff ball that's stuffed down our throats by the latest girl-band factory. Oh, and check this out. She's got some NEW tunes at thepromqueens.z.com that also rock. She's branching out into the Internet and her sound is just as sweet and true as ever."
Your in for a really big show

"Joan Jones is one of the few truly beautiful voices to come down the music blvd in quite some time. Her Album `STARLIGHT CRIMINAL" is Outstanding, with each track becoming your favorite as you listen to it. Do yourself a favor and pick up this album! If you are fortunate enough to see Joan Jones Live, GO! You are in for a real big show. Her voice and beauty will draw you in and you'll be transcended to a better place!"

"Joan has her own style, but manages to avoid having every song sound like the last. Fact is, I don't think any of them do, and I like every song on the cd. Out of maybe 3000 cd's I've owned, I can say that about 10 to 15 of them. I don't tire of her. She keeps it very simple, but like some of my other favorites, I find her real and substantive. I respect the lack of fluff. She knows how to end a song, too. You want to sing along with a lot of this cd, and you will, if you have the range. Maybe even if you don't! ENJOY!"

"Joan Jones is one of those artists who are so full of talent that you know will probably never receive the amount of attention that they deserve. Formerly the leader of the band, Sun 60, Joan has just recently released "Starlite Criminal", one of the best albums of 1998. Every song on this album is amazing ("Forgetful" being my favorite). So should you become musically adventurous, give Joan Jones' "Starlite Criminal" a spin."
