Azure showcases fresh, new compositions in the jazz, Latin , and funk styles composed and performed by John Damberg , Mark Manners, and Laura Koenig, three of Alaska's noted jazz artists. The haunting but lyrical "Minor Melody" features a blend of classical guitar, alto flute, and marimba in a Spanish bolero style. While "Swinging with Tempo" is a delightful romp in a more mainstream jazz genre, "Funkin' at the 1/2 Note" rocks with a 5/4 twist. "Azure Blue Alaskan Skies", the CD's title track, is John's reminiscence of many an outdoor adventure under Alaska's stunningly clear blue skies.
