CD Reviews

One of the best examples of Jimmy Heath's playing/arranging

"This was one of the first recordings I ever purchased thirty or so years ago and Jimmy Heath's playing and arranging sounds as good and as fresh on this CD as it did then. The unusual line up including Julius Watkin's french horn hits home immediately with a superb version of GEMINI. The other Heath brothers excel on this recording together with the excellent piano of Cedar Walton. THE MORE I SEE YOU is not the usual ballad rendition and all the better for it but my favourite track is DEW AND MUD with the Heath fraternity (particularly Jimmy and Al) to the fore. Altogether an excellent example of Jimmy Heath's playing and arranging supplemented on most tracks by Watkins and Freddie Hubbard."
A perfect introduction!

"You can't do better than this wonderful recording by the multi-talented Jimmy Heath. There's energy & intelligence in every track, featuring his strong arrangements. And there's an especially warm tone to his playing that adds richness to both the standards & his own fine compositions. If you're looking for the highest caliber in jazz, you've come to the right place! All that's left after savoring this collection is to track down the rest of his excellent body of work. Most highly recommended!"
