The latest release from the Jim Butler Quartet, Night of a Thousand Years, was released in May 2009 in San Francisco. Jim Butler performs in San Francisco regularly with his own quartet and with Blue Note recorded drummer Donald Duck Bailey. Jim attempts to fuse elements he finds in his travels in the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Africa into his modern jazz quartet music. His musical influences are John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Hector Villa-Lobos, Maurice Ravel, and lately West African music.
