Exquisite Collection of Rarely Heard Baroque Compositions
Peter E. Dunaj | San Francisco, California, USA | 09/10/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Being of Polish heritage, I was excited to discover this collection a few years ago in the Baroque music section in a local store. I was even more elated when I listened to this music. This is the type of heavenly music - and singing - that you can listen to repeatedly without tiring of it. It is remarkably soothing. I have given this CD to many friends and relatives. It is an excellent gift for anyone. Sadly, after reading the history of this collection, you learn how rare a collection this is. I must say that I agree with Gordon Rodda's review (here on this site), but I do not care for his review's title. The title implies a prejudice against Polish music. I am glad that Mr. Rodda's preconceived ideas were changed by this exquisite collection."
Better than the title implies

"Not being familiar with Polish Baroque composers, I bought this album on a lark, and am extremely grateful I did. The vocals are simply magnificent! I've not heard a more endearing soprano. Although the composers are Polish, there is a definite Italian style to many of the compositions, though novel and folkloric additions add spice to the mix. Think Vivaldi with a twist. One challenge of finding good Baroque music is obtaining novelty without getting dullness. This is a superb choice for anyone looking to expand their Baroque horizons."
