Synopsis

There's no question that Jesse Powell's got one of the most magnificent sets of pipes on the male side of today's R&B game. With a four-octave range that delivers acrobatic leaps and bounds with unfettered ease--especially in his angelically crystalline upper range--Powell serves up a few spine-tingling moments on his third release. Especially when he stops employing R. Kelly-type methods (on lukewarm bump-and-grinders like "Go Upstairs" and "After We Make Love"), and just lets his vocals soar into the stratosphere, as on unabashedly gooey heart warmers like "It'll Take the World" and "If I." As expected, most of these sublime moments are blandly wrapped up into minor key ballads made to fit the format of Quiet Storm radio airwaves. But Powell's voice remains a wonder throughout, capable of rising above his material's schlocky melodies and hackneyed pillow talk. --Sylvia W. Chan

A beautiful C.D. with so much love andsensuality

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have long awaited Jesse's new album and did not hesitate to buy it. If you want to relax-play it, if you wanna make love-play it, if you want to have a stimulating conversation with someone-play it, it is a beautiful well rounded C.D. I am in total awe with 'If I, the words are no joke because he is telling her that without her he doesn't know what he is gonna do, One Way's remix of Something in the past is well arranged and he sang that song, I do mean he sang that song. I'm leaving you with his sisters explains to his woman that he ain't even about to get mistreated,Go upstairs speaks of his passion for her and how he just can't wait to show her how he feels, I didn't realize tells how he wants and needs her back because he didn't know how things would be after his love walked out the door,I copuld go on and on, bottom line is Jesse Powell can lay down a ballad and I am feeling him all the way, this is a must have C.D, Jesse deserves to be on top, this brother can sing very well and I am happy to have him in my house and my car...this is a Beautiful C.D!!!!!!"
UNDERRATED BUT NOT AFTER THIS...

"I can not get the brand new JESSE POWELL CD out of the changer. This brother is sooooo damn underrated and this just may be his best cd to date. Now if you like your QUIET STORM un-THUGIFIED, then this is the CD for you. I am not the greatest fan of remakes but Jesse has a very nice update of AL HUDSON and ONE WAYs SOMETHING IN THE PAST that took this brotha back to his high school days back when I was hugging walls at the parties wishing that I had somebody to dance to this song to...maybe that isn't a good memory, but this is a beautiful song and Jesse does it justice. The rest of the cd is just as nice. I think the first single from the cd is IF I and the video is included on the cd(its one of those ENHANCED CDs)His kid sisters, TRINA AND TAMERA of MY LOVE IS THE SHHHHHH fame, back up big brother on most of the tracks and they sound just as good as ever(that reminds me, I need to pick up their cd, it came out a couple of years ago but I only heard one single from it so I didn't know if it was any good or not)Every one of the cd's 12 tracks totally satisfies, well okay there is an exception, I wasn't feeling Jesse on the upbeat I CAN'T TAKE it, his only real foray into DYSFUNCTIONAL THUG territory, but I can forgive that.THIS IS A VERY NICE CD."
Twice as Nice

"Mr. Powell has lifted the bar for balladry with "JP," the latest of his trio of projects. Jesse utilizes his awesome vocal talent over solid, tight, and wonderful melodic tracks such as "It'll Take the World," an upbeat gem that stands distinct to the rest of the set. The first single, "If I" is so soothing it's almost slippery.None of these songs are overdone or annoying in any fashion, causing one to want to hear the album over and over to remember the clean percussion and beautiful vocals. "Invisible Man" stands out as maybe the catchiest song, featuring a nice lead piano over a strong crisp track. "I Didn't Realize" resembles that of a group ballad, due to the pen of the great and currently hot Shep Crawford (Boyz II Men, Deborah Cox, etc).Damon Thomas (often a co-writer with Babyface) lends an expert hand with "Take My Breath Away," probably the most creatively inspired joint on the set. Mixing a few electrically driven sweet guitars with a friendly piano melody, the song could be the All-Star track of Jesse's latest work. Overall, this album easily out weighs Jesse's first two projects. There's no doubt it is the most mature we've seen him, and his vocal abilities have only improved and become more controlled. This is a good set and worth the 28 cans of pop - or 14 dollars."
