Jerri winters somebody loves me
B. Minges | los angeles, california | 04/05/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"jerri winters "somebody loves me" (with the al belletto sextet) (bethelhem; 1957). tracks: "sometimes i'm happy", "it's always you", "i got it bad and that ain't good", "somebody loves me", "dark shadows", "ridin' on the moon", "all or nothing at all", "in other words", "crazy in the heart", "there will never be another you", "kind of moody", "i can't believe that you're in love with me". jerri winters was a great powerful jazz singer from the 1950's with a style similar to that of anita o'day and sarah vaughn. miss winters (a former stan kenton singer) shines on this cd (originally released on bethelhem in 1957) called "somebody loves me" with the al belletto sextet. favorite tracks include "somebody loves me", "sometimes i'm happy", "in other words", "all or nothing at all" "i can't believe that you're in love with me" and " i got it bad and that ain't good". all the tracks are truly brilliant. miss winters proves on this cd that she was among the finest of the jazz vocalists. she seems over looked today when compared to other jazz singers of the time. this is a must cd for any collector of cool female 1950's jazz vocals."
