The Master of Crazed Americana

"Jeffrey and the boys were often called "the best bar band in America", a title that was richly deserved. These guys could play a variety of American musical styles long before the term "Americana" was invented. Jeffrey's notoriety for his hilarious lyrics and outrageous stage behavior sometimes overshadowed his musical talents - this guy was one great singer, songwriter and bandleader. No recording fully captures Jeff and the band in their prime, but this album is a nice reminder of how good they were. Highly recommended."

"I've worn out the grooves on my TWO vinyl copies of this album as I've waited impatiently for the CD issue. For fans of the HAVE MOICY! album, you really owe it to yourself to pick this up NOW. Without delay. The ultimate hippies-meet-hilarity album which, incredibly, doesn't sound dated.
Their original dedication:
"We would like to apologize to our mothers...""

"How can this CD be sitting here unreviewed? This is a *landmark* album that I first bought on Rounder in 1977, and it's still one of the funniest, true-to-life compilations I've ever heard. Fredericks was a major contributor to Michael Hurley's "Have Moicy", and if you liked that then you will love "Spiders".
Come on folks, get with it. "Let Me Down" is the test -- the devout among us will find it outrageous, the secular will think it's a hoot. This CD makes some wonderful music available again, and in my not-so-humble opinion folks should be all over it."
