Jeff Beck: Vegetarian, Hotrod Lover and Best Live Guitarist
Brien Comerford | Glenview, Illinois United States | 09/27/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Once again Jeff Beck displays his peerless guitar virtuousity on this CD which was recorded live in New York in 2003. His ingenuity, versatility and spellbinding riffs dominate this frenetic and riveting CD. Most of the songs are intensely heavy with hard, experimental rock but there are others that yearn with the most sensitive guitar sounds. Jeff Beck literally has an orchestra and other instruments inside his guitar. Nobody else can create so many myriad tones from a guitar. I just saw Jeff Beck in concert two weeks ago and he continues to get better. At age 62 Jeff Beck is indisputably the world's greatest living electric guitarist, especially, live in concert. Nonetheless, he prefers to fix hotrods, garden, excercise and eat vegetarian meals at his British Estate. Jeff Beck is beyond cool ! He eschews commercial fame with disdain."
Excellent.....But Overpriced

"Holy Crap...I bought this CD on-line, when it first came out, for less than HALF of what it costs now. That said, this is an over-the-top performance by one of the worlds best rock guitarists. I think Beck must have been 'set to 11' during this performance, probably because it's a NYC audience and he knows what they demand for their moneys-worth. His tones are often aggressive, rude, and outrageous, yet he can tame them for that sweet, silky-soft playing on the slower numbers. This is what Beck probably sounds like on those nights when, with insomnia at 2AM and pissed off about it, he decides to take it out on his Strat. Great driving music...try to avoid getting a speeding ticket with this in your CD palyer."
WOW!

"It's taken me literally two decades to get Jeff Beck. In my twenties, I tried Blow by Blow and his stuff with Rod Stewart, and while I could appreciate his prowess, it didn't resonate the same way Rory Gallagher or Jimmy Page or even Blackmore did. I warmed up considerably as I approached 30 and heard his work on "Amused to Death" with Roger Waters (lovely stuff). Now, I can't get enough. I see/hear his influence everywhere (from Page to Satriani). This guy really is everything they say he is. This album, while a bit pricey, is worth every cent. The absolute perfect introduction to Jeff Beck for the novice, but be careful, it might spoil you. This stuff never sounded so good, so crunchingly raw. He's on fire. Awesome, awesome album."
