CD Reviews

Jeannie C. Can Still Sock it To you!!!

"Boy, was I pleased with this album!! So many of the budget releases of rerecordings don't come up to snuff but this one is GREAT. I believe these tracks were recorded in the early 1990's. Jeannie is still in wonderful voice and she delivers the goods on her five hits included from the legendary "Harper Valley PTA" to such overlooked gems as "There Never Was A Time","Oh Singer" and "Country Girl", all of them blockbuster hits for her. The new songs are great too - the song "Words" (not the old Bee Gees song) is a killer, one of the best things she has ever done. "Here's to the Cowboys" is a cool song honoring men who are responsible, "Rockin' Pnuemonia" rocks!! This is one of the best $6 CDS you will ever buy!!"
A cut above most budget releases, worth having!

"Previous reviews were both correct, these are re-recording but they are also good songs. Around 2000 St. Clair released a bunch of budget discs called "Good Old Country" by older country stars. Most of these consisted of the predictible matarial that everyone else also re-issues. But this cd does contain something special for the Riley collector. The first 5 hit songs are mystery re-recordings. At first I thought they might be from her 1986 MCA album, but I was wrong. So these remain a mystery. But the last 5 songs are from her unde rated failed comeback album "Here's Jeanne C." A nine track album so you get over half the long out of print album on this cd (nor sure if this cd was ever widely distributed). The songs from this album are excellent and should have gotten more exposure. Most of them are upbeat country numbers. I think Here's To The Cowboys was the single, I remember seeing in on TNN back in the day. For the cheap price and the songs from the 1991 album I give it 5 stars. I don't think you can go wrong if you are insterested in some of her later matarial. I am always curious about what these older country queens recorded in the 80's and 90's. Also the remakes of the ealry hits are worthy of listening to."
