Recorded at Malplaquet Studio, Berlin by Tito Knapp, August 2007
'Odds And Ends', the title of this new JazzXclamation CD, was inspired by the cluttered recording room of an amazing guy called Tito. His studio is housed in a former movie theater in the Berlin district of Wedding, where Tito works and fiddles about among an assortment of cases and boxes, paints and tools, musical instruments and electronic equipment. 'Odds And Ends' perfectly reflects that hodgepodge: it's a mixed bag of composed pieces, improvised music, fragmentary material and narrative elements - all spawned by the diverse backgrounds these four musicians come from. There is a certain aesthetic: rough (yet by no means coarse) elements merge with pleasant melodious sounds; stereotypes are fearlessly used and destroyed; and there's no need to prove a thing. The result may evoke all sorts of associations in the listener's mind, think vivaciously urban, laxly march-like, from balkanesque to balladesque, from Coltrane (sort of) and Monk to... you got it: JazzXclamation.
