CD Reviews

Great Folk Album
K. Ilvonen | 03/06/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"In a genre where it is hard to stand out Jay Nash makes it look easy. With a voice deeper then most folk artists its easy to see why it only takes a few seconds for Nash to catch you by the ear. Nash is a show booking, sound board working man turned acoustic/alt-country artist. Nash show's that his knowledge and work in the music business has left him with a strong background for creating his own music.

For a folk album "The Things You Think You Need" is very strong and has a lot of depth. It covers about every corner of acoustic/alt-country there is to cover. "Sweet Talking Liar" has a Ryan Adams Feel to it that is very accessible for lots of people. One of the stand out tracks is "Barcelona", which showcases Nash's vocal range and ends with some chilling back up vocals courtesy of Sara Barielles. "Keep On Talking" is a perfect example of what the Wallflowers would of sounded like if they didn't have Jakob Dylan holding down the front man spot. If nothing of the above has caught your interest,"Over You" channels a Joshua Radin vibe that fits nicely into the whole mix of things.

The diversity of this record is really what makes it stand out. If you don't like a certain song there is a good chance that you will love another. In the end "The Things You Think You Need" appears to be a simple folk album, but in all reality it has a lot of great songs that exceeds the basic folk layout greatly."
This CD is my best friend.

"I heard Jay when he was opening for another artist and fell in love with his voice. And his lyrics. He's one of the few artists I could listen to all day. This CD has such variety -- a little folk, a little blues, a little country, a little rock...but every song carries me away to a lovely place. You know how most of your CDs have a couple songs you could do without? Not this one. Don't take any of my Jay songs away. I love each one in a different way."

"I also saw Jay for the first time when going to see another artist perform. Usually I don't pay much attention to the opening acts but this guy caught me by surprise! He has a wonderful voice and style and I instantly became a fan. His cd is filled with great songs that his warm voice delivers very well. Try it, you'll like it!"
