A lost treasure by former "Go-Go" Jane Wiedlin!
J. McDonald | 03/11/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"As a member of the legendary rock group "the Go-Go's", Jane Wiedlin established herself as a talented song writer and a very capable rhythm guitarist. Jane began to spread her wings as a solo artist as far back as 1983 when she worked with "sparks" on two songs including the top 50 hit "cool places". Jane left the Go-Go's in 1984 to pursue a solo career and with the exception of the #9 hit "Rush Hour" (in 1988) has existed just below the mainstream radar.

After scoring a top 40 single on her second album ("FUR") the pressure was on to deliver a commercial success with Tangled. Unfortunately the dawning of the 90's meant a shake up in the music industry that left many artists from the 60's, 70's and 80's lost in a sea of grunge and rap on top 40 radio. The title track was included on the soundtrack to the blockbuster 1990 film "pretty woman", but it seems that nothing could save this release from a quick commercial demise. Even without critical or commercial success, Tangled represents an artistic peak and is the most satisfying release by Jane Wiedlin as a solo artist.

The song "Guardian Angel" is nothing short of a masterpiece, few pop songs achieve such magic, it's a stunner. "Flowers on the Battlefield" is a wondrous exercise in mixing anti-war lyrics with amazing and sweet power-pop melody and harmony. "Big Rock Candy Mountain" is a wonderful, fun, treasure of a power-pop tune. Other great tracks include "Paper Heart" (co-written with Cyndi Lauper) and "Rain on me".

Tangled is by far the "best" of Jane Wiedlin and I consider it one of my all time favorite CD's.

"with an exception of "Paper Heart" and the tittle track all the songs are at least very good with the breathtaking "World on fire". the album best for walks in a city to look at the world passing you by from the perspective of a deep sunny and energetic island. just LOVE it!"
