Reissue Of Popular Jan & Dean Album
Johnny Heering | 11/13/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a French import re-issue of the original LP with the same title. The front cover is the same as the original LP with the red background and one of the better pictures of Jan & Dean. The original LP was sometimes refereed to as that album with the "car side" and "school side". All songs are in true stereo and sound as good as any J & D re-issue I've heard. There are exactly twelve tracks on this CD. Among Jan & Dean collectors, this is one their more popular and well remembered albums.Track Listing is as follows: (1)Dead Man's Curve (2) Three Window Coupe (3) Bucket "T" (4) Rockin Little Roadster (5) "B" Gas Rickshaw (6) My Mighty G.T.O. (7) The New Girl In School (8) Linda (9) Barons, West L.A. (10) School Days (11) It's As Easy As 1,2,3 (12) Hey Little FreshmanNote: At the time of this review, there was another CD on Amazon with the exact same title as this one. In the past, a review sent to "one" of these two CD's would also go to the other CD by mistake. If the above picture implies this is a re-issue of two LP's, then this review does not apply. This review only applies to the CD on the Cfive label."

"This isn't two albums on one CD, it's one album with two titles. See, "Dead Man's Curve" and "The New Girl in School" were the a-side and b-side of Jan & Dean's latest single. Liberty Records wasn't sure what side of the single would be the bigger hit, so they titled Jan & Dean's newest album after both songs. (For the record, "Dead Man's Curve" was a #8 hit and "The New Girl in School" reached #37). This is sort of a "concept" album, with the first side being songs about cars and the second side being songs about school. It is a really fun album. Besides the title songs, other standout tracks are "Three Window Coupe", "Bucket T" and "Linda". Here is the complete track listing:

1. Dead Man's Curve

2. Three Window Coupe

3. Bucket T

4. Rockin' Little Roadster

5. B Gas Rickshaw

6. My Mighty G.T.O.

7. The New Girl in School

8. Linda

9. Barons, West L.A.

10. School Days

11. It's As Easy As 1,2,3

12. Hey Little Freshman

A few random notes:

"Dead Man's Curve" previously appeared on the album "Drag City". This is the single version, which is different.

"Three Window Coupe" was later cover by the Rip Chords, who had a #28 hit with it.

"Bucket T" was later covered by Ronny & the Daytonas (who had a #54 hit with it), and The Who.

"B Gas Rickshaw" and "Barons, West L.A." are instrumentals.

"Linda" previously appeared on the album "Jan & Dean Take Linda Surfin'".

Chuck Berry, who wrote "School Days", is of no relation to Jan Berry.

"It's As Easy As 1,2,3" is a duet between Jan Berry and Jill Gibson, and was previously released as a Jill Gibson single."
