Synopsis
Album Description Jamie Green's artistry is an arc of darkness and light. In a voice distinguished by its power and emotion, she communicates lyrics of startling directness, at times playful, at other times deeply contemplative. Her debut album, My Crime, is a fully realized work, conceptual, personal and universal. Framed by organic instruments and a shimmering classic radio mix, the record takes you on a musical journey of soulful rock and funky folk. While sometimes edgy and sometimes sweet, every song is distinguished by its catchy pop melody. The listener sings along with each, without ever having heard it before. Jamie's songs explore the vast regions of relationships, spirituality, sexuality, and politics. Addressing a reluctant potential lover in "We're Alone," she admits to having been "left with luggage" too, but asks him to "please pretend that I'm not your mother or your ex-girlfriend." In the confessional title track, she admits that not giving love, life, or faith a chance, she has committed the ultimate crime: "Have I spent well the time? Well I'm not so sure. And that's my crime." In "Sisyphus" and "Malcolm X," she pays homage to those who have fought hard for a more just world. "Still Burn" delights in the lighter side of lost love while "Won't Regret" is a candid portrait of a woman refusing to regret a dangerous love. "I Know a Sister" explores the emotional and physical consequences of such a love, and the spiritual antidote. "Go On Girl" and Tellin' Lies" are songs of compassion and encouragement. The highly catchy "Pickin' Up the Pieces" is a break-up song that is pure clasic pop-rock. This self-produced indie CD is high in production value, simple, elegant, tasty and packed with emotion. Anyone who enjoys the music of the powerful Lilith Faire women, must add this CD to their collection. |
CD ReviewsYOU NEED TO GET THIS CD TODAY! Kimberly | Redondo Beach, CA | 03/27/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "I can't stop playing this cd and singing along in my SUV. I think it will grab a variety of ages and genres. WHY AM I NOT HEARING THIS ON OUR TOP LA RADIO STATIONS????? It is too good to keep locked up. Most cd's only have 2/3 songs worth listening too, but not Jaime's debut. Every cut is "side A quality". She is also an absolute sweetheart in person. You must go and hear her live and unplugged."
