CD Reviews

Perfect for Dance Floor - okay for home listening
Phil S. | USA | 12/19/2007
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Don't think that you're getting all studio or *choice* live remixes; I surmise you're not hearing results of actual session tape surgery, but sound effects overdubs onto commercial CDs and vinyl. That's nothing unusual, but the CD is very professionally produced and very audible.

The numbers provided are mostly (pause) the Chastain Park tracks getting a full rhythmic facelift - wait a minute, hang in there with me - and it sure can't hurt to hear the drums the way they were heard in the auditorium at the event! That "concert pop" often missing from live CDs.

There are some muted snippets of original studio sound but overall it's creative and highly personalized remixes from big names in the funk/rapp/hipp-hopp pantheon.

No surprises in the song titles - I just wish someone would have selected "Sex Machine", or "Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose", or "Soul Power" from Live At The Apollo, Volume 3. The slightly high selling price would then have made more sense. (Though, as a specialty production it's not unexpected).

Back to the actual CD - great artwork throughout. My copy did not come in the plastic jewel-case, but it's still visually attractive and accessible.

...Maybe I'll adjust my review title, in deference to the re-imagined "Hot Pants": Perfect for Dance Floor - in Clubs and at home."
