CD ReviewsQuirky, ahead of its time. John Russon | Toronto, ON Canada | 12/29/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Jaki Byard seems to be a style unto himself. A participant in music-making during the classic period of modern jazz in the late 50s and early 60s, he also developed his own unique sytle of composing and piano-playing that seems to be more in keeping with music of the last decade. This is a great album, with a range of different styles and feels on it. "Spanish Tinge," played on an out of tune piano, is specially nice, as is "GEB Piano Role." I recommend this along with work by Mal Waldron, Eric Dolphy and Booker Little."
