Synopsis

Product Description
The lights go down. The murmur of the crowd fades to an expectant stillness, broken only by the powering down of cell phones, and some nervous coughing (by me). These are the moments I live for, where time seems to stand still, anything is still possible---and I haven t blown it just yet. Taking a deep breath, I step out into the unknown of another stage, in front of another unfamiliar audience, armed only with a guitar, some half-remembered lyrics, and a dream. Yes, a dream. A dream that maybe tonight I ll break through that glass ceiling, through all the sound gremlins and broken strings, through the fumbled footwork and crackling guitar cables, through every obstacle that separates me from that thing that I need, and want so desperately to pass on: musical truth. Honesty, fearlessness, and awareness of who I have been created to be. These are things I strive to achieve onstage. Barring that, I m happy just to make it to the last chord without screwing up too much. I usually get moments of truth, and it s rare to get an entire evening. But every once in a while, the planets align, and you get your night. I have been blessed to have had a handful of these over the past few months, and I even had the presence of mind to record them. In October, I will release the highlights on a new CD called The Loop , which will contain many new songs and a few old ones, along with a sprinkling of cover songs, on loan from some of my favorite tunesmiths. People like Kurt Elling, Pierce Pettis, and venerable Canadian prog-rock outfit, Rush. Yes, Rush! I do a cover of subdivisions , their seminal classic of suburban fear and loathing. While it is a beautiful lyric, the intricate music presented quite a challenge to this solo performer, who found himself tripping over the many foot-pedal cues, and meter changes. It was a relief to finally nail it on the last night. I dig live albums because they feel real to me, and they always seem to have more of that musical truth . It s like a candid Polaroid, as opposed to a carefully posed portrait. That s what you get on The Loop : a window into my heart and soul, a sampling of the latest research into improv and live looping, and a batch of new songs to groove to. Thanks for listening, everybody!

CD Reviews

I can't believe you are not a star

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I saw the Youtube video of "Subdivisions" on the roof and was so impressed by this cover of my favorite song that I did some more looking. What a gold mine I have found. The covers are so tastefully done, they match up with the originals.

Moon's originals are great as well. "Just Like You" is wonderful song. If you are reading this, Jacob, God gave you much talent and you are taking great care of it. From the guitar work, to the smooth vocals, to the loops and creativity in the presentation, this stuff should be listened to by the world. As a musician, I really find inspiration in your abilities. Keep it up!"
