Way Before HER TIme

"Jackie Deshannon was writing and producing back in the 60's when girl singers were just suppose to sing. As the 70's dawned Jackie took keep on trying to find her place in the market and she sure hit the mark with "Jackie". Her brillant lp never really took off, but the music is still great. When I was a kid "Would you like to learn to dance" was my favorite songs and it was great to hear it again. The "PLUS" includes several singles on atlantic that had never made a cd or an Lp till now. Keep the Jackie music coming."

"Jackie DeShannon started having wondrous & memorable chart hits in the great musical sixties such as "You Won't Forget Me", "When You Walk In The Room", "She Don't Understand Him (Like I Do)", "What The World Needs Now Is Love", "The Weight", "A Lifetime Of Loneliness", "Come And Get Me", "I Can Make It With You", and then finished out the decade with one of the greatest timeless classic anthems of all time "Put A Little Love In Your Heart" which goes on and on over the decades since but for some strange reason when the masterful "Jackie" which is a Memphis Masterpiece, it was released but received zero support from radio yet was praised for the great songs and incredible quality of performances with Jackie's sublime originals sung with exquisite raw & earthy soulful vocal beauty. "Jackie" was recorded in Memphis having a pure raw sound to a brilliant collection of varied songs and production credits don't get any better than legendary masters like Jerry Wexler & Arif Mardin! Opening strong with the sublime John Prine "Paradise", this swampy rhythmic cooker goes to the core of this great song then comes the gospel-edged "Heavy Burdens Me Down" taking it to church featuring a soulful De Shannon vocal filled with passionate urgency. Haunting & involving Jackie vocal filled with an aching yearning make "Brand New Start" engrossing while the Neil Young "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" becomes a mesmerizing emotional experience filled with fascinating tempo changes making this superb version definitive. A riveting De Shannon original "Laid Back Days" becomes a stunning tour-de-force and making one wonder why a groundbraking versatile talent on this level of greatness received no radio exposure yet this collection is a masterpiece and Jackie rocks out with the best of them & be sure to catch her hot guitar licks featured on "Laid Back Days", "Vanilla O'Lay", "I Wanna Roo You", and the rocking original finale of "Jackie" the tour-de-force "Anna Karina". What were they thinking not programming this awesome work for everyone to enjoy and why? Luckily we have this great Rhino first-rate release with a wonderful mixure of the classic "Jackie...Plus" which is one of the best collections from a female singer/songwriter from this era not to be missed and Van Morrison himself produced a number of the bonus tracks to great effect.

Anyone who loves a great soulful singer who sings with remarkable depth and raw passion, don't miss this masterpiece!

Bravo Jackie!!!"
