CD ReviewsEXTOLLING JACK SEMPLE - CANADA'S GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER Philip J. Wylie | East Peoria, Illinois United States | 02/17/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "Jack Semple is one of these guitar players that gets more frightening every time you hear him. By "frightening" I don't mean just good. I mean very good. Jack mirrors in his own way the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Pat Metheny and Tower of Power, and yes, you can even hear elements of progressive rock like Emerson, Lake and Palmer adding to an already seamless fusion of styles sometimes in the same song. There are not many like him. Jack Semple is esteemed by many as one of the greatest guitar players Canada has ever produced. I concure, my wife and I have an autographed copy of his music, having heard him live.
I likewise esteem his music along with the likes of B.B. King, Eric Clapton and most definately the incomprobable Johnny Lang. Like Johnny Lang, Jack Semple's voice and melody are pure, crisp at best and Semple's driving guitar rythym will groove you to a place where you only expect the very best of musicians to be capable of carrying you to. I promise you he will put his music in your soul. Moreover, your blues collection could never be complete without him, rest assured. His latest album is ~Saskadelphia~, as I just found out, is purported to be another great CD and I am ordering my copy of it today. To quote a line from Jack's own words, "Why aren't I world famous" he asks the obvious question? " For one thing, I'm not willing to go on the road for 290 shows a year. Also, my music is a little too esoteric. It's not mainstream. It's an elite form of music. It's music for musicians. Some of my biggest fans are guitar players."" |
