CD Reviews

Hail Hail Rockabilly King
Robert Miller | Eastern USA | 02/08/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I had always wanted to get Jack's covers of Hank Williams, but on the used market this record goes for a great amount of $$$$. Jack's mournful voice is well-suited to these Hank Williams songs, the string arrangements are very unusual - not the Nashville sound type. These recordings were an improvement in production over Jack's original (and wonderfully primitive) Carlton recordings. I especially love his deliveries on Cold Cold Heart and You win again. However, the real gem on this collection is I'm satisfied with you. This is one of the absolute finest recordings of Jack Scott - he out-Elvis's Elvis, and listen to that wild guitar and sax solo. Good Deal Lucille is also an excellent track, while My King has the feel of his early Carlton recordings such as Save my soul. This is fun music, and I recommend it highly."
A little disappointed

"After I purchased the incredible and wonderful "The Very Best Of

Jack Scott" I expected something similar with this twofer but the

result was a little disappointing. A lot of artists have paid tribute

to the great Hank Williams, being Roy Orbison's the absolute best offer

ever, but I found this one the weakest contribution. Just for absolute

Jack Scott fans only."
