CD Reviews

Decent selections of Bach's greatest hits
P. Lin | Sugar Land, TX USA | 05/24/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The former review is only for the buyer's buying experience and not for the quality of this CD set.

All the performances on this CD are drawn from recordings of the last century, That's probably why the price but I do not believe you need to worry about the quality. These are all decent performances by well known artists in this repertoire such as Monica Huggett, Ralph Kirshbaum, Ton Koopman, Gustav Leonhardt, Lionel Rogg, Jordi Savall, Elizabeth Wallfisch, Fabio Biondi, Philippe Herreweghe, Sigiswald Kuijken, Sir Philip Ledger, Andrew Parrott, Jonathan Rees, Peter Schreier, etc.. I thought this would be a great introduction to Bach's music and, really, with great music like these, performance style probably will not matter that much. just sit down and enjoy.

This works best for those who can only afford an hour here and half an hour there and do not have the time to sit through Bach's longer works. It has some complete performances and also some excerpts but seems to have cover all the great ones by Bach. Those demand complete performances or particular performance style might go elsewhere but for newbies to Bach's music world as well as the long time fans (like myself) with limited amount of time, I think this set works very well and certainly will not break your bank either, Do not hesitate if you fall into one of these 2 categories."
