Beautronics review...
Starcadia | 04/10/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"For being so completely unknown at this point, ISAN is one of the better finds I've made lately. Along the lines of Plone, Boards of Canada and the first Air CD (Premieres Symptomes), ISAN is electronic in a raw way. It's quite minimalistic in a good way. Think of Brian Eno with a drum machine. But even the drums are minimal! It's nice. Like I told my wife when she asked what I liked about it, "it's good music that you don't have to think about too much." Listen to it working or studying, not when you're running around cleaning your house. When ISAN starts to release stuff on Warp (to which they've recently been signed) you'll understand that ISAN is a "band" to pay attention to."
A Landscape of Sound and Color

"Usually, an attempt at artistic and minimalistic instrumental electronic music is bound to be boring and cold. In this case, Isan's Beautronics is far from chilly. Instead, one begins to have visions of futuristic landscape paintings or retro bronzes when listening to this album. Honestly, I don't think I've heard anyone get away with as much as Isan does in so few notes and beats. Meanwhile, I swear, the album is a perfect accompanyment to that state between waking and dreaming when the imagination just begins to wander off, because where it wanders is into an incredible environment of somehow visual and physical soundscapes."
Minimalism with Heart

"I enjoyed this and the other ISAN albums very much and would recommend them to anyone with a taste for ambient music. Deceptively simple sounds from odds sources (typewriters as percussion, etc.) come together and stay in the mind long after. Worth looking for this and especially the Salamander, Lucky Cat or Clockwork Menagerie albums. Happy hunting."
