CD Reviews

Stunning

"Isabelle Aubret was given to me as a gift many years ago. At the time I did not know her music and was doubtful that I would enjoy the tape. Well unlike other shrill singers who invoke passion through exaggeration Isabelle's smooth calming voice creeps in and captivates without the need for forced hysteronics. I wanted to replace my well worn tape with a CD of her "Cest Beau La Vie" album but it is not available so I chose the "Chanson Francaise" album which has two of the same hits instead. Isabelle Aubret is a great singer who I frequently return to when other albums have began to sound repetitive and mundane. As a singer she is less threatrical than Patricia Kaas and Celine Dion. Her style is more Francoise Hardy than bluesy or rock. Aubret eschews all fads perhaps this is why her music has such a timeless quality."

"Isabelle Aubret . She sings with so much emotion, her voice is clear and her diction great. At times her songs bring tears to the eyes. I never get sick of listening to her. Highly recommended and for people who are learning french or refreshing their french, listening to her cds will be helpful."
A remarkable singer

"Isabelle Aubret is intuitively elegant and memorable in all her songs, because of her pleasant voice, her impeccable taste for great lyrics and her impeccable taste for melodies.

This album represents a great repertoire of her talent. While she is joyful in "C'est beau la vie" in the theme of her renewed great love for life, she is more pensive, more introverted in the great renditions of "Le petit bal perdu", "Enfants", "Chansons de Prévert", which she sings with great sincerity and thoughtfulness."
