CD Reviews

Interesting, obscure CD
Jeff Grossman | New York, NY | 05/12/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"If you've always wondered what the difference is between a rebec and a viol, or a cornett and a sackbut, this is the CD set for you. The two CDs are well-paced with solo examples of each instrument and lots of "real" music--repertoire from the correct periods, played very musically by musicians of Musica Reservata. Martin Bookspan's NPR voice is perfect for this kind of narration, too. [The price] is a bit steep, but this is a unique set for anybody seriously interested in early music."
