CD Reviews

Clever and rockin' hardcore

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Proof positive that hardcore can be both smart and mosh-worthy at the same time. This collection of In/Humanity tunes switches from full-on thrash, quirky pseudo-emo and plain bizarre experimental stuff, sometimes within the same song."Emo-violence," some call it... but really, that's about as ridiculous a name as you can give to a style of music. I just call it hardcore punk. This CD contains tons of out of print and hard to find tracks from the South Carolina band, including their "Occultonomy" EP, split with Bonescratch, "The Nutty Antichrist" LP, the "History Behind the Mytery" LP and more.Great liner notes/artwork/etc., but to get the full effect of the tracks from the "History Behind the Mystery" album (most of that record's tracks are included), get the vinyl. The songs link together to form a simple, but effective allegory condemning the death penalty (at least that's what I got out of it!), and has a great booklet not reporoduced in its entirety with this CD.May be too abrasive for most listeners, but if you read along with the lyrics you'll have a much more complete and satisfying listening experience.Plus, check out the amazing cover of Agnostic Front's "Victim in Pain," sure to [upset]off tough-guy NYHC fans."
