Sure some will say Blizzard Beasts or At the Heart of Winter is better, but this is Immortal at its most aggressive and brutal stage. The blood-curdling pace of Demonaz' guitars and Abbath's standard snarling vocals will make any black metal fan proud. The only weakness on this album I'd have to say is the drums. While Abbath is a strong drummer, especially on the double bass, his skills are more apparent as a bassist (and guitarist after Demonaz left due to severe arm injuries) and vocalist. Fortunately this problem is solved on the very next album with the introduction of Horgh, a true master of the skins. A great buy for old school black metal fans, and highly recommended for those Immortal fans more familiar with their later, thrashier style as a testament to what Immortal has been since its incarnation."
