Synopsis

Album Description
Straight out of Brooklyn via Upstate New York, New Jersey, Delaware and also Brooklyn comes AM Radio. Starting in the wilderness years of the late 90?s AM Radio combed through their influences of 60?s experimental sounds and 80?s indie rock verve. This four piece have challenged the traditional idea of finding a specific sound. They mine for different inspirations without letting any of them over take the bands vision. Recorded in 1999 and finally being released now, you can hear the power which they work with and also the confidence in not having to overpower the listener with aural blasts. The five songs on their self-titled debut E.P. give a good feel for their noise/pop rock, especially the final track "Beezwax" which is their eighteen minute long days journey into the night. It was this sound that got them the attention of Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth who asked them if they wanted to have him produce their first album. That project, entitled "No Handle" is set to be released on the Viola records imprint of The Social Registry label in the fall of this year.

CD Reviews

Really impressive for a first release

"I bought a copy of this at a show of theirs a few weeks back at a show. I'm really impressed by this considering it was a band I had barely heard of; they sound like they've been playing together for years. Really tight yet comfortable enough to keep the sound/structures loose; they can really move musically. They sort of remind me of bands like Unwound, GSYBE and Sonic Youth but they really have a sound all their own. Not quite as dark as those bands can be now that I think about it. Their vocals are as much inspired by helium/cat power (on the female side) as they are by June of 44 and Polvo (on the male side). The shining stars on this record have to be the tracks 27 and beezwax (which clocks in at over 15 minutes and holds at least a blow torch to the aforementioned bands). Although the material on this record is well developed and sounds great their live show had more developed sound. They also had a boatload of songs which don't appear on this EP. I'm guessing this might be older material. I actually put their name into amazon looking to pick up some more music by them but I guess this will have to do for a while."
A.M. Radio-- Unique & Ebullient

"This is a solid band that I have recently been introduced to and hence, I am now a huge admirer. Their last show was at the downstairs Tonic lounge of NYC, a favorite place of mine to see quality music. Their sound is intoxicatingly impressive-- multiple layers of guitar, vocals, beats, etc. You can tell that this is not a sell out band-- various musical originators are definately an influence in their sound but they hold strong to their identity. A must see live band to fully understand them! Can't wait for their next release. This one is good, they only are getting better."

"... They are a NY band that has recorded with Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth and are very much in the same vein. Great band...I have no idea who this other AM Radio is . These guys have been around for about 5 years played with the likes of Mike Watt, Sonic Youth, Two Dollar Guitar and in some rare occasions they've rounded out the bill on some very experimental shows by the likes of Test & NNCK. This EP dates back to 1999 when teh band self released it (repressed in a more real run this time around by a record label with a barcode, catalog number, remastering, ect ect ) and was recorded by Jerry Teel of the NY no waves 80's band The Honeymoon Killers. It's pop music to a degree but not moronic pop music in the vein of weezer. Listen to the MP3."
